Toni & Guy - Hair Tips - Summer Hair Care to Enjoy the Sun

Summer is right around the corner, and we can't believe it! We're looking forward to the weather warming up so we can spend more time outside after everything that has happened in the first half of the year. However, when the seasons change and the temperature warms up, your hair may suffer some unwelcome damage. Every few months, you should switch up your hair care routine to assist your locks acclimate to the new season, and summer is no exception! We don't want you to lose out on the fun of summer, so we've compiled a list of our favourite summer hair care suggestions for you.

Water is essential to your health
Drinking plenty of water is vital all year, but it's more essential in the summer when you're more dehydrated. It should come as no surprise that water is beneficial to your overall health, but did you know that it can also benefit your hair? Drinking enough water keeps your scalp moisturised, resulting in fewer split ends, faster hair growth, and even hydrating your hair to make it look nicer! It's important to remember to drink throughout the day, not just when you're thirsty.

Reduce the amount of shampoo and increase the amount of conditioner
We've all heard that washing our hair every day can strip away the essential oils that your hair need. That may be more difficult in the heat. Take more showers with simply conditioner if you sweat more in the summer and want to maintain your cleanliness without sacrificing your hair's oils. While you should only shampoo every 3-4 days, conditioner can be used on a daily basis. Conditioner not only adds shine and hydration to your hair, but it also functions as a protective barrier against further damage.

Make an Extra Effort to Protect Your Hair
There are a number of simple things you can do to keep your hair safe during the summer months. Wearing a hat outside is one strategy to keep your hair from drying out due to continual exposure to the sun's UV radiation. Alternatively, if you plan on swimming, you should wash your hair with lukewarm water and wear a cap if the pool contains chlorine. These minor things may not seem to harm your hair at the time, but they can mount up quickly over the summer months. It's always best to do whatever you can to safeguard your locks, no matter how insignificant or insignificant it may appear!

Heat is should be avoided.
Your hair will already be exposed to enough heat! The last thing you want to do is use curling irons, straighteners, or other heat-styling products to add even more. If you're not careful, too much heat can cause dry hair and split ends, which is the last thing you want to be doing on your summer vacation. Instead, use this as an opportunity to practise natural curling techniques like braiding or pinning your hair. Your hair will appreciate the well-deserved rest!

Trim your hair on a regular basis. There's nothing like a haircut to get rid of all the damaged hair and split ends that have been bothering you! Trims should be done on a regular basis all year, but in the summer, with the heat and chlorine damaging your hair, it's even more necessary. Plus, if your hair does become damaged, even a modest trim will encourage it to grow faster, allowing you to reclaim your healthy locks. At the absolute least, give your hair a trim every six weeks to give it the fresh start it deserves!
